PROPOSAL

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF CONSUMPTION OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS

LINKING CONSUMERS AND FARMERS OF THE FUTURE

GREEK CONSUMER’S ORGANIZATION -ATHENS ,GREECE

Introduction

Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is the step forward for the future of agriculture in an enlarged Europe. As a political text is making specific choices for the agricultural model of the future by decoupling state aid to producers and the market oriented production and by linking growth and employment. But most importantly by linking consumers needs and farmers supply of products.

After the decision on the new CAP a large debate was generated within EU for the future of farming in Europe. Especially after the integration of the new member states plus the applying future members (mainly Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Croatia, FYROM) . The estimations are defining a complete of the map of farming in Europe. In the future especially the young farmers have to face major challenges and restructuring and innovation is the key word for them. Additionally to that, consumer’s pressure for new standards concerning the quality f agricultural production will move things to new innovative, “green” and with stricter health standards production.

In that sense the discussion among young farmers is one of great importance for shaping the future landscape of agriculture and the discussion between farmers and consumers is even of more importance for a more market oriented production.
